Bruce Macaulay was born in Quebec City and raised and educated in
Montreal. He began working for the Montreal Gazette in 1968 and was
soon transferred to Southam Press’ head office in Toronto. He
worked in advertising for Southam’s magazine TV/Times from 1972
to 1978 and then as photo editor there until 1983 when he began his
freelance career. He has been working in still and gallery photography
on film and TV sets since 1984 and has worked on more than two hundred
feature films, M.O.W.’s and television shows. |

A still photographer since 1995, Sophie Giraud was born in France
and brought up in Istanbul. She came to Canada to attend the University
of Toronto, obtaining an Honours B.A. in Celtic and film studies.
She started a career in live concert photography for various publications
in 1992 and moved into film from there. She has worked on more than
fifty features, several of which were previous Festival selections,
such as CUBE (97), CLUTCH (98), FOCUS (01), RHINOCEROS EYES (03) and
TWIST (03). She has also worked on numerous studio pictures such as
MY BIG FAT GREEK WEDDING (02). |

for more than eight hundred screens across Canada. Before joining
Cineplex, he was president of Red Sky Entertainment, a Vancouver-based
theatrical distribution company that he helped to found in 1997. From
1990 to 1997, Cianciotta was Senior Vice-President and General Manager
of theatrical distribution for Alliance Releasing, Canada’s
industry leader in distribution. |

Born and raised in Cardiff, Wales, Marc Evans was educated at Cambridge
and Bristol Universities. His first feature, HOUSE OF AMERICA (97),
won acclaim at many international festivals including Sundance. A
second feature, the controversial Belfast thriller RESURRECTION MAN
(98) followed. Evans’s next film MY LITTLE EYE (02) was a shocking
digital-video horror film that was presented as part of Midnight Madness
at the Festival in 2002. TRAUMA screens in the Visions programme at
this year’s Festival. |

Lizzie Francke began her career as a programmer for the Everyman Cinema
and Electric Pictures where she was involved in the re-releases of
LA DOLCE VITA (60), BREATHLESS (60), THE BIG HEAT (53) and IN A LONELY
PLACE (50), among others. She was also involved in launching the debut
films of both Claire Denis (CHOCOLAT (88)) and Jane Campion (SWEETIE
(89)). Subsequently she enjoyed a career as a critic writing on film
for a variety of publications from “Sight and Sound” to
“The Guardian.” She currently works for the production
company Little Bird, where she is executive in charge of their Ministry
of Fear label. |

ALEX TURNER
DIRECTOR, DEAD BIRDS (04)
Alex Turner started directing films at age eleven with a home movie
camera given to him by his father, resulting in epics like DR. GRIFFIN’S
CREATION and SPATULA DEATH. He graduated from the film programme at
the State University of New York’s Purchase College and directed
music videos and commercials in Los Angeles and New York. He has made
two highly acclaimed short films, CHUCK (00) and DISPOSAL (03). DEAD
BIRDS is his feature debut. |
