Paul Haggis, Mary Harron, Phillip Noyce And Brian De Palma Confirmed As Talent Lab Guests Plus 22 Participants Announced

Toronto - The 31st Toronto International Film Festival announced today a lineup of esteemed Governors, powerhouse guests and 22 dynamic participants at this year's Talent Lab. Now in its third year, Industry Initiatives' Talent Lab offers invaluable artistic development opportunities to emerging Canadian filmmakers in a four-day intensive programme. This year's Governors to date include the return of celebrated author Michael Ondaatje, and esteemed producer Jan Chapman (THE PIANO, LANTANA). Guests include Academy Award® -winning producer, director, and screenwriter Paul Haggis (CRASH), acclaimed director and writer Mary Harron (THE NOTORIOUS BETTIE PAGE), renowned director, writer, and producer Phillip Noyce (THE QUIET AMERICAN, RABBIT-PROOF FENCE) and legendary director, writer, and producer Brian De Palma (FEMME FATALE, THE UNTOUCHABLES).

Talent Lab is an artistic development programme that provides emerging Canadian talent with unparalleled educational experiences and avenues for networking during the Toronto International Film Festival. This year's participants are: Amy Belling (Producer, Langley, B.C.), Vivieno Caldinelli (Director/Writer, Toronto), Jonas Chernick (Writer/Producer, Toronto), Andrea Dorfman (Director, Toronto), Debra Felstead (Director/Writer/Producer,Toronto), Lara Fitzgerald (Director/Writer, London, ON), Alexandre Franchi (Director/Writer/Producer, Montreal), Hugh Gibson (Director/Writer/Producer, Toronto), Skander Halim (Director/Writer/Producer, Toronto), Matthew Hoos (Director, Toronto), Renuka Jeyapalan (Director/Producer, Toronto), Adam Garnet Jones (Director/Writer, Toronto), Caroline Martel (Director/Producer/Writer, Montreal), Jesse McKeown (Director/Writer/Producer, Vancouver), Richie Mehta (Director/Writer, Mississauga), Kathryn Mockler (Writer, Toronto), Simon Reynolds (Director/Writer, Toronto), Matthew Swanson (Director/Writer, Vancouver), Sarah Timmins (Producer, Toronto), Michael Vass (Director, Toronto), Ingrid Veninger (Director/Writer/Producer, Toronto), and Jessie Wallace (Director/Writer, Toronto).

The MotoFilm Project also returns with Talent Lab. Motorola provides Talent Lab participants with video-capture mobile phones to experiment with mobile movie filmmaking first hand. In the weeks leading up to the Festival, these MotoFilms - created around the concept of "self portraits" - will be produced and shared peer-to-peer. In addition to the return of the Moto Film Project, Motorola trailers featuring some of the mobile films created by 2005 Talent Lab filmmakers will be featured during this year's Festival.
